On view from March 26 to May 18, 2024
For the first presentation of TRUTH in France, Miles Greenberg introduces us to a new reading of a performance first presented in New York in 2023 and unveiled as a video installation in the spring of 2024 at Buro Stedelijk in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Presented as part of a new iteration of the original eponymous performance, this new work documents the impressive 7-hour-long battle of eight sword-wielding performers painted in black oil, dueling in a volcanic, vermillion-colored pool. Their intentions are unclear, the setting of a pool of red water, difficult to situate in space and time. The sword emerges, simultaneously, as the evidence of violent impulses and an unexpected symbol of righteous rule. TRUTH implicates the viewer’s body in the fabric of the installation, immersing their senses within a soundtrack composed by Chino Amobi. With this new work, Greenberg sets out to challenge the boundaries between performance art, sculpture, and installation art in a highly immersive way.
