The Embrace (2023)

Location: Faurschou New York, Brooklyn, NY, USA
Duration: 6 hours/day; 25 days
In The Embrace, two performers sit atop a large stone inside of a glass cube. The performers are two people who’ve never met before. They are both nude and wearing blinding contact lenses. They meet for the first time by touch alone. Once entered into the cube, two remain immobile in a perpetual embrace thru the venue’s opening hours. At the base of this cube are twenty centimetres of seawater. From an IV bag fastened to the ceiling, droplets of river water fall into the base of the cube one-by-one, creating ripples. The cube becomes an estuary, where river and ocean meet.
This iteration of The Embrace was performed as a part of Embrace the World from Within, a group exhibition at Faurschou New York featuring Louise Bourgeois, Miles Greenberg, and Yoko Ono.
